Three-day orientation programme for Yoga instructors begins in Chandigarh Sector 16

A three-day yoga orientation programme for instructors started on Thursday at the cricket stadium in Sector 16 ahead of the International Yoga Day to be held in the city on June 21.

During the programme held from 6am to 7am, certified yoga instructors and experts were imparted training according to the 45-minute yoga protocol chalked out by the Ministry of Ayush for the main event.

The experts who are attending the session have been teaching yoga in schools, colleges and other institutes.

The volunteers consists of yoga experts from Patanjali Yogpeeth, which has been appointed by the Centre to coordinate and assist the Chandigarh administration in organising the event, and from other institutes like Art of Living, Yoga Vidya Maha Samiti, Brahmrishi Yoga Training College, International Brahmrishi Mission and Isha Foundation.

Post training, these yoga experts would conduct workshops from May 21 for residents throughout the city.

The event is being organised by the Chandigarh administration in collaboration with the state governments of Punjab and Haryana. The Ministry of Ayush will fund the event and around Rs 8 crore is expected to be spent on it.

The one-hour event on June 21, which will be held at the Capitol Complex, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi apart from around 30,000 students and other guests.

The participants will be provided with yoga mats, T-shirts, yoga pants, Aung vastra, brochures and others.
