New Delhi: A ‘Yoga Olympiad’ for school children will be be held on International Day of Yoga this year.
Smriti Irani, the Human Resource Development Minister, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha said that the idea to organize the Olympiad has been adopted to promote Yoga among the students and youngsters.
She also stated that the Ministry of AYUSH has already taken some measures to promote the Development of Yoga and Naturapathy by constituting a National Board.
Last month a three-day International Yoga Festival was organized in New Delhi to make the public aware of the celebration of International Yoga Day 21st June.
In the Yoga festival, the AYUSH minister emphasized the importance of Yoga in our daily lives, especially among the youth, and how it helps to handle future challenges and achieve full potential.
He also said that it is necessary for a youth to be in a good condition regarding physical, mental and spiritual health and make the right choice by balancing the lifestyle activities.
The minister explained that in the past few years, the health aspects of Yoga have been popular. Yoga plays a major role in the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. It is a cost-effective way of dealing with health-related problems. It helps to calm our mind and handle any stressful situation, the minister said.
